Description: Select a controversial topic or argument and assign students to take a side for or against. Ask students to research the topic and find supporting evidence for their side, as well as evidence that supports the opposing view that they will need to address. Have students prepare their argument and hold a structured debate where each side gets to make opening statements, provide their evidence, and closing statements. If not all students participate in the debate, have the “audience” vote on which side presented the strongest argument.
