HCC provides many resources that are free for students in order to support them as they study at HCC. Below is a list of resources that can be copied and pasted into your syllabus to help make students aware of the resources that are available to them.

Accessibility

Assignments
If you need guidance on your assignments, please let me know. You can schedule an appointment with me in my office by sending me an email at _____________@howardcc.edu. You can also schedule an appointment to see a tutor, available in both the Composition and Literature Center in DH 210 and the Write Room (RCF 352) inside the Learning Assistance Center in RCF 340.
Computer Help
If you need a computer to prepare your assignments, you can use a computer in the computer labs located in DH 110, CL 129, the library, the Composition and Literature Center in DH 210, and the Learning Assistance Center in RCF 340.
If you need help using a computer or specific software to complete any of your assignments, contact the Learning Commons at LC@howardcc.edu to schedule an appointment for free instruction and help.
English as a Second Language
ESL students can also receive help from the Composition and Literature Center in DH 210 and the Write Room (RCF 352) inside the Learning Assistance Center in RCF 340, but they should ask if ESL tutors are available. These experts can give you the specific help you may need. ESL students can also get help with speaking and presentation skills from the ESL Pronunciation Lab located in DH 210.

You should sign up for mobile alerts via email or text to stay informed about important college information (like delays and campus closings) here: https://howardcc.omnilert.net/subscriber.php. You will need to create a username and password first (your HCC credentials don’t work for this site). Then add a phone number or email address where you would like to receive the notifications (via text or email).

Students can go to the LAC on the 3rd floor of the RCF building (RCF 340) for drop-in tutoring or to enroll in a weekly appointment with a tutor for academic help in college courses.

If you need technology help with any of your assignments (e.g. if you don’t know how to use PowerPoint to do your assignment), you can email LC@howardcc.edu to set up an appointment in-person or by phone.

Howard P.R.I.D.E. is a leadership program that encourages the continued academic, professional, and personal development of black and minority males. Help Desk can loan eligible students a laptop for 7 days. Help Desk also assists students having problems with passwords, email, myHCC, online course access, wireless access, registration, printing, software, and other technology problems.

Safe Zone is a network of allies committed to providing a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, faculty, and staff at HCC. Step Up is a program that helps students connect and succeed at HCC. Students who volunteer to participate are paired with a faculty or staff coach who provides one-on-one support for managing the challenges of college and life. During weekly meetings, coaches encourage, guide, and support their Step UP students.

Provides assistance to veterans, active duty military, guard, reservists, and dependents of veterans and active duty military. The Veterans’ Affairs staff work with veterans and their qualified dependents to initiate processes necessary to activate and maintain their benefits.
