Teach From Anywhere
Faculty may record their lectures from home, in their office, or in the classroom! Appear on camera or simply provide the voice-over for a recorded presentation. Anything you see on your computer screen will be captured and recorded. This may include PowerPoint slides, documents, images, webpages, etc.
Description: Record lectures for students to review or to prepare before they attend your class. Lectures may be recorded on campus or in your home office. Maximize class time by having students review your remarks and course content outside of class. Supports the "Flipped Classroom" model.

Why Use Lecture Capture? Here are some ideas from faculty:
Online faculty may record an introductory video of themselves to better connect with their students.
Record a "navigation" video to assist students with learning how to navigate your Canvas course site
Record a supplemental video for a topic that was "muddy" in a face-to-face class in order to help students with out of class work.
Record directions to completing an assignment (thus reducing the number of repeat questions from students)
Provide recorded materials to support students for whom English is a second language
Record a lecture or series of lectures to deliver online in the case of inclement weather
Record a quick tutorial for a new piece of software or equipment
Record a weekly announcement to provide background and instructions for
the week's activities

What are some best practices in lecture capture?
Plan your remarks. If you don't have a complete script, at least jot down specific talking points.
Be yourself. Don't panic about a few malapropisms or ummms.
Chunk your recordings. Try and limit each segment to 15 minutes.
Smile when you are speaking! (Even if you are not on camera. It provides a better tone and energy for your voice).
Ask your students for feedback. Some students would rather see the instructor on camera instead of just a voice over.
View your analytics to see if students are viewing your videos. Let them know you can identify whether they have viewed the video.
What equipment do I need?
A web cam if you want to appear on screen (many also incorporate a microphone)
Microphone (if not using the web cam)
Instructional Materials

Mediasite Desktop Recorder is the free lecture capture tool available to HCC faculty and staff that allows users to make digital recordings of lectures or presentations. Once finished, the recordings can be uploaded immediately to Mediasite and then shared through a unique weblink. Another advantage of the Desktop Recorder is that it can be installed on multiple devices!
